2017 Ryedale Show - Wasn't it Good!

Tuesday 25th July 2017 saw the 151st Ryedale Show, and a tremendous success it was, attended by over 15,000 people on its single day.

The weather behaved and not even an unfortunate disagreement between a car & a motorbike outside the main entrance early on could get in the way!

All the event categories were fully subscribed, as demand was so high, as described in the YP piece;
"Christine Thompson, the show’s secretary, said: “It’s got to the point with livestock entries that we have got as many as we can take. We are happy being at full capacity and we are very fortunate to be with cattle, trade stands and sheep - to make the show any bigger would dilute it. Taking any further steps would be a big job. All the volunteers (we have about 100 of them) give as much as they can out of the goodness of their hearts and we can’t ask any more of them and the show all relies on the generosity of the Shaw family who lend us the land."

Planning will start around October for next year's event, which shows the sheer amount of hard work & effort that organiser Christine & her team put in, to produce such a well organised event.

Whilst the Great Yorkshire Show is arguably one of the most well-known events on the agricultural calendar, it is by no means the only one in our beautiful county. Tuesday 25th July sees the 151st Ryedale Show, held in Welburn Park, Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire.

The Ryedale Show was established in 1855 and is a traditional Agricultural Show renowned for its very high standard of entries in all Sections and Trade Stands that attend in ever growing numbers each year. 

The Show is run with both the farming community and townspeople's interests in mind and there are attractions for everyone of all ages.

The show offers great value for money, with a full and varied day of entertainment with some wonderful retail therapy as well.

Situated within a natural amphitheatre, there are eight rings running throughout the day, exhibiting prime cattle, horses, sheep, pigs and goats. There are also sections for fur & feather, produce, WI/YCA and children’s classes together with sheep dog trials and a dog show. Prize money in excess of £20,000 is up for grabs, not to mention some fabulous trophies.

In the region of 200 quality trade stands attend each year, with many having exhibited each year for at least 10 years. They openly say that it is like a "family meeting" and this makes the atmosphere unique, warm and very friendly.

New Website

Just a quick Blog post to publicise our fantastic new website, put together and maintained by Ian of Blue Box Support.

We love the new look already and we are sure it will carry on the work the original (also by Ian) started, promoting our members in particular and North Yorkshire in general to the rest of the UK and the world.

TANY works hard to ensure North Yorkshire is seen as one of, if not the, best tourist destination in the UK. We feel the new website, along with all our integrated social media on all the major platforms, will keep us in the forefront!

More About Our New Visitor Guide

We are incredibly pleased to report that it's looking like our latest Visitor Guide, produced by our IT Partners Blue Box Support, is going to be our most successful Guide yet!

Copies have been flying off the shelves of Tourist Information Centres, with more being distributed as we write this Blog post.

It may seem early, but Blue Box will begin compiling the 2018 Guide in early August, so make a note to keep an eye out for the notices that will be published and get your adverts in.

This year's Guide was brilliantly refreshing and focussed on far more of our amazing and beautiful County than ever before and Blue Box assure us that this is a trend that will continue. Not just with the Guide but with our website, social media and membership as well.

Great links have been forged with such wonderful locations as Ingleton, which features in the Guide, and many pages were given over to sharing information about North Yorkshire's beautiful Stately Homes & Gardens, Embsay & Bolton Steam Railway and Dalby Forest.

Our latest Visitor Guide is in distribution to numerous Tourist Information Centres, Tourist Attractions, places of interest and some shops. We can confirm that demand has been high, with a significant increase in interest on previous years.

Our latest Guide is something of quality, with much useful information. We have a multitude of accommodation providers advertising within our pages from B&B providers, to self-catering, hotels as well as holiday parks with caravan and camping facilities.

The Guide is also jam-packed full of features, including a look at the wonderful village of Ingleton and a detailed look at the amazing Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.

Via our website you can also access a copy of the Guide in PDF format (approximately 6Mb in size) but we also offer an interactive, page-turning online version too, with clickable links (approx. 9.75Mb).
