Our 2018 Visitor Guide

Our 2018 North Yorkshire Visitor Guide is available now!

Following on from last year's excellent and well-received publication, this years is again compiled and produced by our talented IT & Social Media partners, Blue Box Support.

The Guide is a beautiful A4, glossy publication and it is already finding pride of place in Tourist Information Centres across the country.

The Guide offers a feature on the stunning and world-famous Castle Howard, which also adorns our front cover.

Other features include an extensive look at the life and career of Peter Walker who, under the pen name of Nicholas Rhea, was responsible for the series of "Constable" books that later became the hugely successful, and still very popular, TV series, Heartbeat.

We look at Community Policing in our County with Ruth Pearson who is a PCSO based in Skipton, the beauty that is the Yorkshire Dales, the art of Ian Scott Massie who exhibits his work at the gallery in Masham and we mustn't forget Keith Pickering, the Stick Man of Helmsley who, amongst many notable commissions, created the stick made famous by the title character of the two successful Nanny McPhee films.

We are convinced our Guide will stand proud on the shelves of TICs across the Country and it's already being viewed across the globe in electronic format.

Don't miss out!

2017 Ryedale Show - Wasn't it Good!

Tuesday 25th July 2017 saw the 151st Ryedale Show, and a tremendous success it was, attended by over 15,000 people on its single day.

The weather behaved and not even an unfortunate disagreement between a car & a motorbike outside the main entrance early on could get in the way!

After-show publicity has been good, with a fantastic article in the Yorkshire Post by Ben Barnett, which you can read here: Yorkshire Post

All the event categories were fully subscribed, as demand was so high, as described in the YP piece;
"Christine Thompson, the show’s secretary, said: “It’s got to the point with livestock entries that we have got as many as we can take. We are happy being at full capacity and we are very fortunate to be with cattle, trade stands and sheep - to make the show any bigger would dilute it. Taking any further steps would be a big job. All the volunteers (we have about 100 of them) give as much as they can out of the goodness of their hearts and we can’t ask any more of them and the show all relies on the generosity of the Shaw family who lend us the land."

The local Gazette & Herald has also been a great supporter of the event, following up on a couple of pre-event articles with an excellent post-event piece (to which we have submitted some pictures) here: Gazette & Herald

Planning will start around October for next year's event, which shows the sheer amount of hard work & effort that organiser Christine & her team put in, to produce such a well organised event.

The 2017 Ryedale Show

Whilst the Great Yorkshire Show is arguably one of the most well-known events on the agricultural calendar, it is by no means the only one in our beautiful county. You can see a list on page 8 of our current Visitor Guide which is stocked by most good Tourist Information Centres, downloadable via PDF from our website or viewed on the electronic version here: Visit Yorkshire: 2017 Guide

Tuesday 25th July sees the 151st Ryedale Show, held in Welburn Park, Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire.

The Ryedale Show was established in 1855 and is a traditional Agricultural Show renowned for its very high standard of entries in all Sections and Trade Stands that attend in ever growing numbers each year.

The Show is run with both the farming community and townspeople's interests in mind and there are attractions for everyone of all ages.

The show offers great value for money, with a full and varied day of entertainment with some wonderful retail therapy as well.

Situated within a natural amphitheatre, there are eight rings running throughout the day, exhibiting prime cattle, horses, sheep, pigs and goats. There are also sections for fur & feather, produce, WI/YCA and children’s classes together with sheep dog trials and a dog show. Prize money in excess of £20,000 is up for grabs, not to mention some fabulous trophies.

In the region of 200 quality trade stands attend each year, with many having exhibited each year for at least 10 years. They openly say that it is like a "family meeting" and this makes the atmosphere unique, warm and very friendly.

We love the new look already and we are sure it will carry on the work the original (also by Ian) started, promoting our members in particular and North Yorkshire in general to the rest of the UK and the world.

TANY works hard to ensure North Yorkshire is seen as one of, if not the, best tourist destination in the UK. We feel the new website, along with all our integrated social media on all the major platforms, will keep us in the forefront!

More About Our New Visitor Guide

We are incredibly pleased to report that it's looking like our latest Visitor Guide, produced by our IT Partners Blue Box Support, is going to be our most successful Guide yet!

Copies have been flying off the shelves of Tourist Information Centres, with more being distributed as we write this Blog post.

It may seem early, but Blue Box will begin compiling the 2018 Guide in early August, so make a note to keep an eye out for the notices that will be published and get your adverts in.

This year's Guide was brilliantly refreshing and focussed on far more of our amazing and beautiful County than ever before and Blue Box assure us that this is a trend that will continue. Not just with the Guide but with our website, social media and membership as well.

Great links have been forged with such wonderful locations as Ingleton, which features in the Guide, and many pages were given over to sharing information about North Yorkshire's beautiful Stately Homes & Gardens, Embsay & Bolton Steam Railway and Dalby Forest.

You can download a PDF copy here: TANY 2017 Visitor Guide

You can also view the interactive online version with live links.

If you are an accommodation provider or if you operate a visitor attraction, cafĂ©, tea room, pub, restaurant or something completely different you could do a lot worse than take on membership of TANY - at only £63 for the year it's a steal!
